GaiaI'll crumple the trees and eat themGaia
as fast as the clouds could cry
for a heaven even out of their reach.
And as soon as I'd swallow the little worm
curving in soil by the tree's furthest root,
the rocks would swim down to the bottom
with the earliest lava and melt along to the core
of me, tasting not of bland slate, but
the spices that couldn't exist before.
They'll prove that rocks can't sift
through the tissue of heaven and lava,
and that worms can't crawl or even live
inside what the clouds can hold.

Sulfur WishI (once) wished that trees were blue,Sulfur Wish
with the fluorescent sun crisping
the synthetic leaves until they cracked.
I was told, "sometimes wishes come true,"
while I smiled as the sulfur drops melted
stained glass into violet lakes.
Wishes like raindrops rotted the old grass
until it retracted into the neon ground,
while the trees fell green against
an old church's cornerstone.
